Meet Kirsten
Hello and Welcome
I live by the sea in the beautiful town of Hove, close to Brighton. Since completing my postgraduate qualification in psychodynamic counselling in 2012 I have worked in several organisations and have had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of clients. This includes working as a counsellor in a number of schools and colleges in the Brighton and Hove area. I am passionate about my work with young people, and have undertaken further training in duo counselling in order to work with parent and teen, or couples, together.
Counselling Teens & Young People
My interest in working with teenagers was sparked by my first experience of receiving counselling as a young person at university. I experienced difficulties as a teenager and know first-hand how turbulent this time of life can be. So much is changing both internally and externally and it often feels confusing and overwhelming. Fortunately, I was able to work through my challenges and came to understand at a personal level how powerful the therapeutic relationship can be in providing support during times of transition and change. Clients & Areas of Concern
I welcome all clients over the age of 14 to my practice, and have worked with people up to the age of 80 in both short and long term therapy. Through my commitment to further professional training I have developed a wide range of skills in working with young people and adults and will adapt my approach to meet your needs as an individual. The topics of gender identity and sexuality frequently arise and this is an area where I specialise. Some of the other issues I work with include anxiety, panic attacks, depression, low self esteem, bereavement, loss, feelings of overwhelm, relationship problems and loneliness and isolation.
Supervision
I currently supervise colleagues that also work in schools, and therapists in private practice working with adults. I have supported practitioners in other settings, such as carers and working in supported housing.
Your First Session
Our first session together will take place at Lansdowne Place Therapy Rooms in Hove. I will be there to listen to you and work collaboratively to identify the issues that are most pressing. From there we can decide together on what feels the most helpful way forward for you.
If you are thinking of starting counselling with me and would like to learn more, I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss your needs and see if we are a good fit for one another.
